About SaunaIndex

Last updated: By The SaunaIndex Bench

SaunaIndex is an independent directory of the Greater Toronto Area companies that build, install, service and sell saunas and cold plunges, ranked by the published SaunaIndex Score. This page explains who builds it, what it does and does not do, and the editorial rules that keep the rankings honest.

Who runs SaunaIndex?

SaunaIndex is compiled and maintained by The SaunaIndex Bench, an independent editorial team. We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any listed business, we do not sell saunas, and no business can pay for a better position. The team builds the dataset from public Google Maps records, checks each company's own website before describing what it does, applies the ranking formula published on our methodology page, and reviews every dataset and price guide before it goes live.

What does SaunaIndex do, and what does it not do?

It does two things. It ranks Greater Toronto Area sauna and cold plunge companies on one published score out of 100, built from their Google reviews, what each states about itself on its own website, and how complete each record is, so you can compare real businesses instead of ad placements. And it researches what this work costs from named sources, with the source shown beside every figure and any US figure labelled as one. We track 39 businesses in 2 categories across 26 mapped areas.

What it does not do matters just as much. No company can pay for a better position, and no lead here is sold. Where a listing has been claimed, its profile publishes the number the company itself confirmed, and you call it yourself; where it has not, the profile carries a request form instead, and what you submit through it reaches SaunaIndex.

One more boundary, because it is easy to assume otherwise: this is a directory of companies you hire or buy from, not of places to go. Spas, bathhouses, gyms and hotels that sell sauna sessions are not listed here, and nothing on this site books a session.

Why keep retailers separate from installers?

Because they are different businesses and mixing them wastes your time. A showroom sells kits, heaters and tubs. An installer builds and fits them. A repair company services what is already there. A directory that lumps all three together sends someone who needs a heater replaced to a shop that has never done an install, and calls a shop a contractor when it is not. SaunaIndex keeps them as separate categories and describes each business as what it actually is.

How does SaunaIndex make money without selling rankings?

SaunaIndex is free to read and free to be listed on. Today the directory earns nothing; if it ever does, revenue will come from clearly labelled promotion kept separate from the rankings on purpose. No company can buy a higher rank, ever. Keeping money and rankings apart is the whole point, because a directory you cannot trust is worthless.

What are SaunaIndex's editorial standards?

SaunaIndex follows five rules on every page. Rankings are never for sale. Review data comes only from public Google Maps profiles. Market pricing is always attributed to a named source. We describe a business as what it is rather than what fits the page. And anyone can request a correction. Those standards are what let us claim these 39 listings are ranked on merit.

  • No pay-to-rank

Placement comes from a transparent, published formula. Nothing on this site is a paid slot, and if that ever changes it will be labelled and kept out of the ranking.

  • Google review data

Ratings and review counts here are Google's, copied as published. We write none of them, buy none of them and change none of them.

  • Named pricing sources

Cost figures cite the specific supplier, installer or authority they came from, so you can check them yourself. Most are Canadian; the few that are not say so in the row and are priced in US dollars. Where we have no source, we publish no number.

  • No health claims

This site talks about wood, heaters, wiring, venting, drainage, permits, delivery and warranty. It makes no claim about what a sauna or cold plunge does to a body, because that is not something a directory can know about you.

  • Open corrections

Spot something wrong, or want your business removed? The contact page sets out exactly what to send and how corrections and removals are handled.

What is in the SaunaIndex dataset?

The August 2026 SaunaIndex dataset holds 39 Greater Toronto Area businesses spread across 2 categories and 26 mapped areas. Across the companies that carry a rating at all, Google puts the average at 4.6 stars across 26 rated companies, with a median of 17 reviews per business, and 57.7% of them hold a rating of 4.8 stars or higher. We map each company to a Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA city so results reflect who already works near you.

How do I reach the SaunaIndex team?

Write to corrections@saunaindex.ca. It is a real mailbox and it reaches a person. The contact page sets out exactly what a correction, removal or business-owner request needs to contain. If you are trying to hire someone, do not write to us at all: every listing carries its own quote request, and sending that is faster.
